From the birth of James Allen Bland and Victory Gardens to landmark premieres for Mary Martin and Erik Ehn, October has been a momentous month for theatre.
Among the honorees are Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, who was recognized for political theatre, as well as Collaboration Fund recipients and producers in residence.
Next season at the Portland Latinx theatre will include new plays by Georgina Escobar, David Valdes Greenwood, Tracy Cameron Francis and Roy Antonio Arauz.
The arts are central to community life, and many theatres are pioneers in civic engagement.
The theatre’s longtime leader will leave at the end of September to pursue a doctorate in theatre arts.
The Latino theatre company’s season will include world premieres by Olga Sanchez, Karen Zacarías and Rebecca Martinez.
