Steppenwolf Announces 2021-22 Season, Opening of New Building

The season will feature all ensemble-written plays and the opening of the company’s new 400-seat Round Theater.

The festival will present public readings to limited audiences in June in Steamboat Springs.

A series of pop-up performances will populate the Ohio theatre’s May slate.

The 45th annual festival will feature virtual projects and experiences on a rolling basis over the coming months.

Flint Mural Plays will feature new short audio plays from 25 commissioned writers, including student playwrights at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Working with Emmy-winning television producer Christina Tye, the company will present ‘The Sound Inside,’ ‘Ohio State Murders,’ and ‘I Hate It Here.’

In addition to the season, the company is launching a new WPA initiative aimed at getting artists and gig workers back to work.

The 2021-22 season will feature 2 world premieres and 7 total productions while the Huntington Theatre undergoes renovations.

The festival will feature 3 world premiere productions, all performed outside and socially distanced.

The company’s cohort of actor-managers will lead a season of three shows in repertory.
