The Chicago company will produce a virtual series this fall, and live programming will resume in February 2021.
The Chicago theatre will begin its season in February 2021 and move a planned world premiere to the 2021-22 season.
Next spring the theatre plans to mount ‘Caroline, or Change’ and ‘1776,’ and in the fall and winter, ‘Birthday Candles’ and ‘Trouble in Mind,’ in its belated Main Stem bow.
25 artists have been engaged to come up with a slate of new work, with forms and delivery methods to be determined.
The season, which will feature 3 world premieres, is set to begin in January 2021.
The Chicago ensemble theatre will present a shortened lineup, plus new works on a streaming platform.
The adjusted season will begin April 29, 2021, with the extended closure resulting in $40 million in lost revenue.
The organization eyes a Dec. 2020 reopening which would launch with ‘A Christmas Carol.’
With a new membership program, the organization will be able to offer members virtual tickets or live tickets depending on if and when the theatre can reopen.
The Maryland company has cancelled all live performances through 2020.
