The foundation has awarded grants to 80 playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists with shows canceled due to COVID-19.
The 2020 cohort includes Ayanna Berkshire, Tonia Jackson, Stephen Wolfert, Leila Buck, Shannon Dorsey, and Moses Goods.
Named for the theatre critic’s late wife, the program will aid visual and performing artists affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown.
The four artists will begin their residencies immediately, creating three new theatrical works.
Celebrated playwrights and a legendary dramaturg make up this year’s class of theatre fellows.
The selected playwrights will receive workshops and readings as part of PlayPenn’s 2020 play development conference.
The NEXT Generation Commission has been awarded to Kate Kilbane and Dan Moses, and Jessie Austrian and Noah Brody.
Though COVID-19 has closed the building’s doors, the fellowship and residency continue digitally.
The ‘Heroes of the Fourth Turning’ playwright will be awarded $50,000.
