10 outstanding early-to-mid-career playwrights will be celebrated with 2021 Steinberg Playwright Awards in the amount of $10,000 each.
The Cygnet Theatre commission awards the playwright $10,000 and an unrestricted time limit to create a new play.
The festival also introduced the new GROW Light designation to shine a light on additional artists and projects.
The two playwrights will receive support in the writing of new plays and the facilitating of relationships in the industry.
The awards, to be presented in January, celebrate the work of 8 individual educators and 2 institutions.
Rader will receive $3,000 and her play ‘The Helpers’ will have a staged reading with Theater J.
Colón will receive $5,000 and additional support to develop a new work and hire a dramaturg.
Inaugural grants will go to Carla Ching, Josh Wilder, and Carolyn Ratteray.
The award, which includes an unrestricted $5,000, will be presented at a virtual ceremony on Jan. 24.
