The program offers playwrights dramaturgical and career support over a 10-month period, with the aim completing a draft of an original full-length play.
The Houston festival showcases Latinx playwrights and stories.
Aya Ogawa is the recipient of the McKnight National Residency & Commission, while Gethsemane Herron and Rachel Jendrzejewski are the new McKnight Fellows.
After a COVID hiatus, the award recognizing art and social impact will give be given to 3 recipients for the years 2021-2023.
Reilly and Santory will receive both private and public readings of their work.
This year’s recipients include Samuel D. Hunter, Sanaz Toossi, Caridad Svich, Jules Feiffer, Gretchen Cryer, and Nancy Ford.
Both playwrights will have their writing workshopped in Portland Stage’s upcoming Little Festival of the Unexpected; Benne’s ‘Manning’ will get a full mainstage production.
The commissions come with financial, dramaturgical, and logistical support for the development of original, full-length works.
The program is currently accepting applications from Chicagoland theatre artists of color, two of whom will receive grants of $10,000.
