Her 2022 play took home the $25,000 prize, while Madison Fiedler won the Osborn Prize and Suzan-Lori Parks and Rebecca Gilman received citations for their work.
The finalists are Aleshea Harris for ‘On Sugarland’ and Lloyd Suh for ‘The Far Country.’
The 12 teenage playwrights hail from 5 different states, and this year’s live presentations will be the first performed in person since 2019.
Six New York-based artists will receive micro-residencies in Mexico City, while a second cohort of Mexican creators will be selected in fall 2023 for residencies in New York City.
The new partnership will launch this summer with playwrights York Walker and Dave Harris.
The 2023 competition marks the first time that the prize has been awarded to more than one finalist.
Honorees in 5 categories each receive a $75,000 unrestricted prize and a CalArts residency.
The festival will feature shorts, staged readings, and a Young Playwrights Festival.
Guadalís Del Carmen, Dave Harris, Rachel Lynett, and Sanaz Toossi will develop new works with support from the Binger Center for New Theatre.
