Audra McDonald, Craig Lucas Receive 2016 Madge Evans and Sidney Kingsley Award

The award recognizes one actor and one playwright for their body of work in the American theatre.

The recipients are Micki Grant, Jane Cox, Ari Laura Kreith, Lisa Kron, Jeanine Tesori, Lear deBessonet, and Elsa Rael.

The Chicago company slates works by Lynn Nottage, Jaclyn Backhaus, and Margaret Edson, as well as its first commissions.

Her play “Utility” will receive publication and a staged reading at Lincoln Center Theater’s Claire Tow Theater.

The award recognizes emerging playwrights who have not achieved national recognition.

The playwright will win the $50,000 prize for drama, presented by the Whiting Foundation.

Among the winners in the field of drama are Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Stephen Adly Guirgis, and Lynn Nottage, who will each receive $10,000 to $20,000.

The 2016 Van Lier Fellowship for Asian artists under 30 will provide $12,000 each to one actor and one director.

The NJPAC Stage Exchange: The Commissions will commission and produce plays by David Lee White, Nikkole Salter, and Chisa Hutchinson.

Steven Dietz, Samuel D. Hunter, Jen Silverman, Jonathan Norton, Lynn Nottage, and Qui Nguyen are this year’s finalists.
