Honorary awards were also given to outgoing Signature Theatre artistic director James Houghton and Suzan-Lori Parks.
Danai Gurira, Martha Plimpton, Kate Whoriskey, and Mia Katigbak will be lauded at the awards ceremony.
Jessica Holt, Laley Lippard, Jeff Liu, Madeline Sayet, and M. Graham Smith will be the second group to participate in the program.
The playwright will create a new work for a future season at the theatre.
Lin-Manuel Miranda won the top honor; ‘Gloria’ by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and ‘The Humans’ by Stephen Karam were named finalists.
The fellowships offer development opportunities for emerging playwrights.
Kelly’s winning play, ‘I Carry Your Heart,’ will receive productions on both coasts next year.
Adams will receive a reading of her one act play inspired by a historic woman playwright.
