LOS ANGELES: Center Theatre Group has announced its 2015–16 season at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, including a mixture of immersive theatre, dramas, comedies and a musical.
“In 2005, Center Theatre Group opened the Kirk Douglas Theatre with the promise of adventurous, boundary-pushing fare—tantalizing, thought-provoking, moving and witty work that is making its mark on the local and national theatrical scene,” artistic director Michael Ritchie said in a statement. “With our 2015–16 season, we continue that tradition with great pride.”
The season begins with Geoff Sobelle’s The Object Lesson (Sept. 4–Oct. 4), an immersive theatre experience that explores the relationship between people and everyday objects. David Neumann will direct.
Next is Kansas City Choir Boy (Oct. 15–Nov. 8), with music and lyrics by Todd Almond, about lovers in a small town who become separated when the woman decides to move to New York City to follow her destiny. Courtney Love and Almond will star, and Kevin Newbury will direct. David Bloom will provide musical direction for a string quartet.
Following will be Young Jean Lee’s Straight White Men (Nov. 20–Dec. 20), a father-son drama that unfolds when three adult men travel home for the holidays to visit their father. Lee will direct.
Next will be Sheila Callaghan’s Women Laughing Alone with Salad (March 6–April 3, 2016), about a man who cannot stand the three women in his life, who have passionate love affairs with salad. Neel Keller will direct.
The season ends with Samuel Beckett’s Endgame (April 24–May 22, 2016), an absurdist play about a four characters clinging to sanity. Alan Mandell, Barry McGovern, Rick Cluchey and Charlotte Rae will be featured. Mandell will direct.
