It’s a new year, and there are plenty of new submission opportunities for playwrights looking to get produced in 2024. Check out some of the opportunities below, including opportunities for young playwrights.
- PlayGround has opened submissions for their 16th annual Young Playwrights Contest. High school students in the Bay Area are invited to submit original 10-minute plays that bring awareness to the practice of land acknowledgment. Deadline: April 22.
- Red Bull Theater has opened submissions for their Short New Play Festival. Playwrights are invited to submit 10-minute plays on the theme of renewal. Deadline: March 18.
- The Road Theatre Company has opened submissions for their 15th annual Summer Playwrights Festival. The festival welcomes playwrights at all levels of their careers and accepts any 10-minute, one-act, or full-length play that has not been produced on the West Coast. Deadline: Feb. 15.
- The Latinx New Play Festival and La Jolla Playhouse have opened submissions for the 2024 Latinx New Play Festival. Playwrights who self-identify as Latinx are invited to submit full-length plays by this Monday, Jan. 15.
- The Theater Project has opened submissions for its 22nd annual Young Playwrights Competition. The competition is open to high school student writers in New Jersey. Deadline: Jan. 22.
- The Playwrights Realm has opened applications for the 2024-25 Writing Fellowship and the Scratchpad Series. The deadline for both is Feb. 5. The Realm will open applications for the 2024-25 Native American Artist Lab will open later this month.
- The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center is accepting applications for the 2024 Young Playwrights Festival. Middle and high school writers between the ages of 12-18 can submit 10-15 page scripts through Feb. 1.
