NEW YORK CITY: The Off Broadway Alliance has named the winners of the 12th annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards for the 2022-23 season. An awards ceremony was held this week at Sardi’s.
The winners include Fat Ham at the Public Theater with the National Black Theatre for best new play; Endgame at the Irish Repertory Theatre for best play revival; Titanique for best new musical; Merrily We Roll Along at New York Theatre Workshop for best musical revival; the magic show Asi Wind’s Inner Circle for best unique theatrical experience; and Jessica Hendy’s Walking With Bubbles for best solo performance.
Additionally, the organization presented Legend of Off Broadway Awards to actor Alison Fraser, publicist and producer David Rothenberg, and Nicholas Viselli, the artistic director of Theater Breaking Through Barriers. The alliance also posthumuously inducted multiple artists and administrators into the Off Broadway Hall of Fame, including Andrew Leynse, the late artistic director of Primary Stages; the late playwright Robert Patrick; and the late theatrical press agent Susan L. Schulman.
Finally, the alliance presented the Friend of Off Broadway Award to director and choreographer Jeff Whiting, the owner of Open Jar Studios and the founding artistic director of the Open Jar Institute.
The Off Broadway Alliance is an organization of Off-Broadway producers, general managers, venue owners, press agents, and marketing personnel dedicated to promoting and supporting Off-Broadway theatre, encouraging and assisting new producers, and making live theatre accessible to new and diverse audiences.
