WASHINGTON, D.C.: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company has named Kimberly E. Douglas to be their new managing director. A D.C. native, Douglas will begin her tenure on April 10. She succeeds interim managing director Ted DeLong, who took over last year from Emika Abe.
“Kimberly Douglas is as Woolly as they come,” artistic director Maria Manuela Goyanes said in a statement. “She is an out-of-the-box thinker with incredible integrity who cares deeply about the role of theatre to ignite conversation. It’s been a privilege to work alongside her through Connectivity Core Partners and then on our board of directors, and I cannot wait to see what we cook up for D.C. as she steps into this role.”
Douglas has served as the production manager, director of operations and programming, and managing artistic director of THEARC Theater in D.C. She helped THEARC collaborate on productions and projects with Woolly Mammoth through the latter’s Connectivity Core Partner Program, and joined Woolly Mammoth’s board in 2021 through a seat reserved for Connectivity Core members. In 2022, Douglas launched KD ARTS Consulting to provide program curation and production services, talent and operations management, and other arts administration services. Through KD ARTS, Douglas has worked with Demaskus Theater Collective in residency at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center and the 2023 Wammie Awards. Douglas is currently the co-chair of the D.C. Co-lab Equity and Justice Committee, where she advocates for arts education. She is a graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.
“My journey within the D.C. arts community has been an extraordinary experience of growth, perseverance, and authentic dedication to uplifting the arts,” Douglas said in a statement. “I’m overjoyed for this new role, and I look forward to contributing my gifts to Woolly Mammoth as we make bold, audacious theatre, make an impact in the arts community, and tell important and necessary stories onstage and beyond.”
