American Theatre is proud to be the venue for Theatrical Mustang, an independently produced podcast from actor-writer-activist Woodzick. Each month they’ll bring listeners interviews with unbridled talent and cultural trailblazers from across the country.
This month, they speak to founder and producing artistic director of Boulder-based square product theatre, Emily K. Harrison. Emily’s work focuses primarily on the creation and development of new and innovative works of American theatre and on explorations of American mythology, violence, and disaster in performance. In addition to her work with square product, Harrison has collaborated on projects with Buntport Theater, Hoarded Stuff Performance, Screw Tooth, Joanna & the Agitators, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, the Texas Shakespeare Festival, and the Boulder International Fringe Festival.
Emily, who holds an MFA in Performance from the Savannah College of Art & Design and a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder, currently serves as assistant professor of theatre at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Previous academic appointments include visiting, lecturer, and guest artist engagements at Sewanee: The University of the South, Whitman College, Brunel University London (UK), the University of Colorado Boulder, Naropa University, and the University of Northern Colorado. One person whose work both she and Woodzick touch on in this conversation is Ayla Xuân Chi Sullivan, who Instagram is here (and whose work AT excerpted here).
