Offscript: How Aya Ogawa Writes on Bodies in Space

After our July break, we return for an interview with the writer-director-performer of ‘The Nosebleed.’

Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.

After taking the month of July off, we return with a lively chat with playwright Aya Ogawa, whose play The Nosebleed is currently at Lincoln Center Theater. In this autobiographical play, four other actors play different versions of Ogawa, while Ogawa herself—who also directs—briefly plays her own son, and, in extended and extraordinary instance of channeling, her late father, whose death some years ago in many ways inspired the play. In this wide-ranging interview, Ogawa talks about her very embodied, engaged creative process, about how the American theatre has (and hasn’t) responded to calls for change, and what success and failure mean to her.

You can download the episode here and watch the original Facebook chat here. If you have any feedback or suggestions for Offscript, please reach out to at@tcg.org.
