NEW YORK: The free arts and arts-adjacent streaming platform Broadstream has launched with over 75 original pieces of content. The platform, which spans genres including theatre, comedy, music, spoken word, politics, and fandom, features professional content created by and starring diverse voices.
The platform has additional programming in production and will host content specifically curated for young, engaged, and diverse viewers. Broadstream, which is live at Broad.stream, is free for users.
“Art is a right, not a privilege,” founder Jana Shea said in a statement. “No person should be unable to access high-end art due to their race, sexuality, gender, religion, place of birth, or financial status.”
Selected programming from Broadstream’s initial slate of offerings includes Game Night with Eden & Kamilah, featuring Broadway performers Eden Espinosa and Kamilah Marshall; Soul(Signs): An ASL Playlist, a series of music videos conceived by Brandon Kazen-Maddox and the Up Until Now Collective that reimagines 10 iconic songs by Black women as music videos in American Sign Language; and the interview series The Inbetween, featuring Broadway actor Erika Henningsen interviewing women in the theatre industry. The full programming slate can be found on the Broadstream website.
Broadstream was founded by Shea, a film and theatre producer and co-founder of Seaview Productions, along with Borderlight Entertainment founder Joseph Abate and Bandits Roost Entertainment. Cori Silberman Sais serves as chief executive officer. Broadstream’s mission is to empower and feature artists who have been historically marginalized, dedicating their platform to amplifying their voices and highlighting art that meets the moment in the pursuit of justice. Artists receive a share of Broadstream’s advertisement sales revenue generated from their work to make Broadstream’s content by and for the artist.
