Offscript, Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, last year made a comeback on Facebook Live as a biweekly chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests.
Now, even as it continues on Facebook, we’re making it an audio podcast too, for those who’d rather listen than watch (we know you’re out there). And our first rebooted audio Offscript offers a meaty conversation about acting training, diversity, and inclusion in the American theatre. Our guests on this episode, recorded on June 25, are Tamilla Woodard, the new chair of acting at Yale School of Drama, and Carl Cofield, the chair of grad acting NYU Tisch. Both are active directors and seasoned teachers, and they speak with editors Rob Weinert-Kendt and Jerald Raymond Pierce about their background, their approach to acting, and why they don’t call what their schools will offer a “classical” education.
