NEW YORK CITY: The 24 Hour Plays has announced that they will launch a podcast, The 24 Hour Plays: Live Podcast!, in partnership with the Greene Space at WNYC. Six episodes are planned for 2020, with the first two being recorded in front of a live audience at the Greene Space at WYNC on March 16.
“The 24 Hour Plays is already a singular theatre event,” artistic director Mark Armstrong said in a statement, “but turning it into an audio experience will allow us to bring this lightning-in-a-bottle to audiences wherever they find their podcasts. We’re thrilled to partner with WNYC to create something unique for our friends around the world to enjoy together.”
This new project will bring together four creative teams at 9 a.m. to create four new plays that will be developed, rehearsed, recorded live all in one day. Included in the production will be four writers, four directors, eight actors, one host, one musical guest, and a team of audio engineers. (Full cast and creative teams have yet to be announced.) During the taping, songs from the musical guest will be recorded in addition to the new plays.
By 9 a.m. the next morning, two episodes made from the live taping will be available online.
