FISH CREEK, Wisc.: Peninsula Players Theatre has announced its 2020 season, the company’s 85th.
The summer season will begin with Rounding the Third (June 16-July 5) by Richard Dresser. The play follows two Little League coaches debating baseball and fatherhood.
Following will be the musical Something Rotten! (July 8-26) by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Wayne Kirkpatrick. The comedy focuses on two brothers struggling to write the world’s first musical in the shadow of Shakespeare.
The season will continue with The Unexpected Guest (July 29-Aug. 16) by Agatha Christie. The mystery sees a stranger approaching a murder scene at a remote country estate.
“I’m very happy that Samuel French just recently released The Unexpected Guest from its vault,” said artistic director Greg Vinkler in a statement. “I think it’s one of Christie’s best.”
Next up will be And Neither Have I Wings to Fly (Aug. 19-Sept. 6) by Ann Noble. The Irish drama follows a family balancing grief and celebration when a wedding follows a funeral.
The season will close with the world premiere of The Gentleman Thief (Sept. 9-Oct. 18) by Mark Brown, which was part of Peninsula Players’ winter reading series this year. Based on the story A Gentleman of Leisure by P.G. Wodehouse, the romantic comedy is about a millionaire bachelor whose love seems to keep disappearing.
Peninsula Players is the country’s oldest professional summer theatre, and has been exciting audiences in the Green Bay area since 1935.
