NEW YORK CITY: The 10th annual Lilly Awards were held on Sunday, May 19, at the Minetta Lane Theatre. The awards honors women working in the theatre, and was hosted by Obie- and Drama Desk-winning playwright Mia Barron and actor Jenn Colella (Come From Away).

This year’s awardees, who were recognized for their career, were actors La Tanya Richardson Jackson, Glenda Jackson, and Jayne Houdyshell; playwrights Gretchen Cryer, Julia Cho, and Connie Congdon; and composer Nancy Ford. Madeleine George was given the Stacey Mindich Award, which comes with $25,000, for her play Hurricane Diane.

Besides experienced theatremakers, the Lillys also honored emerging talent, who received scholarships and mentorship opportunities. These winners were Masi Asare (the Stacey Mindich $25,000 “Go Write a Musical” Award), Eliana Pipes (the Leah Ryan’s Prize), Dawn Landes (the Williamstown Theater Festival Commission), You-Shin Chen (the Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Apprenticeship Award in design, $10,000), Victoria Davidjohn (the $15,000 New York Women’s Foundation Director Apprenticeship), and Jasmine Lesane and Taylor Lilly (the new Daryl Roth/Atlantic Theatre Technical Apprenticeships).

There was also one male awardee: Oliver Butler, director of What the Constitution Means to Me on Broadway, who received the Miss Lilly Award.

The Lillys are supported by Dramatists Play Service, the Dramatists Guild, Audible, Williamstown Theatre Festival, producer Daryl Roth, producer Stacey Mindich, the New York Women’s Foundation, the Leah Ryan’s Fund, and Liberty Theaters.

The Lillys were founded in 2010 by playwrights Julia Jordan, Marsha Norman, and Theresa Rebeck. They are named after playwright Lillian Hellman.
