CLEVELAND, OHIO: Dobama Theatre has announced their 60th anniversary season featuring Midwest and Cleveland premieres, fresh contemporary offerings, and a Chekhov remix.
The season will kick off with Stupid F**king Bird (Sept.6-29), by Aaron Posner, partly adapted from The Seagull by Anton Chekhov. An aspiring director looks to break from the past while a young actress pines for a famed novelist. Nathan Motta will direct.
Following will be Wakey, Wakey (Oct. 18-Nov. 10), by Will Eno, about a man coming to terms with his impending death.
Next up is The Old Man and the Old Moon (Dec. 6-Jan 5, 2020), with book, music, and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Company. An old man must abandon his post as a liquid light filler for the moon in order to save his lost wife. Melissa T. Crum and Nathan Motta will direct.
After that is Skeleton Crew (Jan. 24-Feb. 16, 2020), by Dominique Morisseau, about a failing automotive plant that leaves the remaining workers to worry about their futures. Justin Emeka will direct.
The Midwest premiere of Dance Nation (Mar. 6-29, 2020), by Clare Barron, will follow, about a pre-teen dance troupe with big-league aspirations. Shannon Sindelar will direct.
The season will close with The Other Place (Apr. 24-May 24, 2020), by Sharr White. Juliana, a successful neurologist, discovers nothing is at all as it seems at a conference in Cape Cod. Nathan Motta will direct.
Dobama Theatre, founded in 1959, strives to educate theatre artists and premiere the top contemporary pieces.
