NEW YORK CITY: WP Theater has announced the lineup for its upcoming season, featuring world premieres from playwrights Alexis Scheer and Donnetta Lavinia Grays.
The season will open with Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (Sept. 11-Oct. 20) by Alexis Scheer. In this world premiere co-production with Second Stage Theater, a group of teenage girls gather in a tree house to summon the ghost of Pablo Escobar.

The festival will include five brand new plays written, directed, and produced by the fifteen artists of the 2018-2020 WP Lab. The featured playwrights are Eboni Booth, Vanessa Garcia, Christina Quintana (CQ), Charly Evon Simpson, and Bryna Turner. The featured directors are Victoria Collado, Sarah Hughes, Candis C. Jones, Rebecca Martínez, and Arpita Mukherjee. The featured producers are Ilana Becker, Marie Cisco, Lucy Jackson, Stephanie Rolland, and Alyssa Simmons.
The season will close with the third annual Parity Plays Festival (Spring 2020). WP Theater will work with Colt Couer to produce a series of free new-play readings by female and trans playwrights and directors, highlighting some of the most exciting current plays-in-progress.
