CHICAGO: The Court Theatre has announced their 65th season, loaded with renowned Greek characters and classic favorites.
The season will open with August Wilson’s King Hedley II (Sept.12-Oct.13), about a Pittsburgh man rebuilding his life after a stint in jail. Ron OJ Parson will direct.
Up next is Sophocles’s tragedy Oedipus Rex (Nov. 7-Dec.8), translated by Nicholas Rudall. Oedipus is tasked with saving the city by uncovering the murderer of the previous king. Charles Newell will direct.
Following is The Mousetrap (Jan. 16-Feb. 16, 2020), by Agatha Christie. The story follows the Ralstons, a family snowed in during the report of a murder. Sean Graney will direct.
After that is A Lady From the Sea (Mar. 12-Apr. 12, 2020), by Henrik Ibsen and translated by Rolf Fjelde. Upon the return of her former flame, a woman must choose between her current marriage and the past she loved and left behind. Shana Cooper will direct.
The season will close with The Gospel at Colonus (May 7-Jun.7, 2020), conceived and adapted by Lee Breuer and Bob Telson. New life and soulful gospel is injected into the Greek story of Oedipus, now set in an African American Pentecostal church service. Charles Newell will direct.
