STAUNTON, VA.: American Shakespeare Center (ASC) has announced its 2018 summer and fall season, featuring four productions in rotating repertory.
The season will kick off with Shakespeare’s As You Like It (June 13-Dec. 2), about a young woman who flees persecution in her uncle’s court and finds love in the Forest of Arden. The cast will feature Allie Babich, Shunté Lofton, Greg Brostrom, and Brandon Carter. ASC’s co-founder and director of mission, Ralph Alan Cohen, will direct.
Next up will be the world premiere of Emma (June 14-Dec. 1), adapted by Emma Whipday from Jane Austen, about a young woman who uses her talents as a matchmaker to help her friends find love. Zoe Speas will star, and Stephanie Holladay Earl will direct.
Following will be Shakespeare’s Richard III (July 6-Dec.1), about King Richard III’s rise to power and his short reign on the throne of England. Jenny Bennett will direct.
The season will conclude with George Etherege’s The Man of Mode, or Sir Fopling Flutter (Aug. 22-Nov. 30), a comedy of manners about a merry band of ladies and gentleman with tricks and disguises. Christopher Marino will direct.
Founded in 1988 as Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, the company became American Shakespeare Center in 2005. Its mission is to explore the English Renaissance stage through performance and education.
