NEW YORK CITY: Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, has appointed Gordon Lane to be its new chief technology officer (CTO). Lane joins TCG after spending the last 13 years at Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, a not-for-profit organization that facilitates the economic development of all communities in Upper Manhattan through job creation, strategic investments, and small-business assistance. Serving as their information technology officer, Lane supported the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone during its greatest period of success in the revitalization of the Upper Manhattan community.
“One of the four pillars of our focus over the next few years is around innovation and digital transformation,” said Adrian Budhu, TCG’s deputy director and chief operating officer, in a statement. “I am thrilled to have Gordon on our team to lead these initiatives. I’m hopeful that our strides in this area will serve as a model for the field, and streamline and improve the user and staff experiences throughout all our platforms.”
“I’m excited to join an organization with such a mission-driven organizational culture and strong sense of values,” said Lane in a statement. “I’m looking forward to bringing my years of experience in empowering not-for-profit impact, through technology tools, to TCG’s vision of a better world for and because of theatre.”
From 2000 to 2002, Lane was the northeast regional systems administrator of Analysts International, a global IT staffing firm. He managed the IT systems of five offices, from Charlotte, N.C., to Rochester, N.Y. In addition to his experience in technology, Lane has an artistic background and has been a professional musician for all of his adult life. Lane majored in jazz studies at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. In 1999, he attended Comet Technology Institute, of Edison, N.J., studying Microsoft systems engineering and network security.
