PROVIDENCE, R.I.: Trinity Repertory Company has announced its 2018-19 season, featuring eight productions.
The season will start with Pride & Prejudice (Oct. 4-Nov. 8), adapted by Kate Hamill from the novel by Jane Austen, about a headstrong young woman facing bubbling pressures to find a suitable marriage from her family and society.
Next up will be Marcus Gardley’s black odyssey (Jan. 3-Feb. 3, 2019), a reimagining of Homer’s classic that combines Greek mythology and African-American history through the story of Ulysses Lincoln, who is lost at sea and presumed dead after the Gulf War.
Following will be An Iliad (Feb. 6-10), by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, and translated by Robert Fagles. Based on Homer’s The Iliad, this retelling recounts the tales of gods and goddesses through one storyteller.
The season will continue with Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Jan. 31-March 3, 2019), a tragedy about the lengths a general will go to win the Scottish throne, directed by Curt Columbus.
Next will be Lauren Yee’s The Song of Summer (March 14-April 14, 2019), about the singer behind the catchy song of the summer and his transformative experience visiting his childhood piano teacher. Taibi Magar will direct.
The season will continue with Little Shop of Horrors (April 11-May 12, 2019), with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, a musical about the hapless employees of a flower shop and the unusual plant in the store that feeds on blood. Tyler Dobrowsky will direct.
Following will be Marisol (May 16-June 16, 2019), by José Rivera, a fantastical play about a woman in New York City who awakes to find a crumbling new reality after a visit from her guardian angel.
Just in time for the holidays will be A Christmas Carol (Nov. 8-Dec. 30), by Charles Dickens, with original music by Richard Cumming. The holiday classic about Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey through Christmas Past, Present, and Future, will be directed by Mark Valdez.
