In Three on the Aisle, a podcast from New York about theatre in America, drama critics Peter Marks (The Washington Post), Terry Teachout (The Wall Street Journal), and Elisabeth Vincentelli (The New York Times, The Village Voice and The New Yorker) get together to (verbally) wrestle over shows, writers, actors, and trends. This week, it’s more like Four on the Aisle, because the critics are joined by Chris Jones, theatre critic for the Chicago Tribune.
And so the great work begins, again. The critics discuss the Broadway revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America plus the new book about the making of the show: The World Only Spins Forward by Dan Kois and Isaac Butler (Terry is cited in the book).
Then Chris shares his thoughts on Hamilton in Chicago and the non-NYC productions of the hit musical. Has its move across the country dampened the show’s popularity, or is it as hard to purchase a ticket as ever?
The critics then close the show by going around the table and talking about the best shows they’ve seen in New York, London, and Chicago.
