NEW HAVEN, CONN.: Long Wharf Theatre has announced the lineup for its third annual Contemporary American Voices Festival (Oct. 20-22).
“New work is the lifeblood of the theatre,” said literary manager Christine Scarfuto in a statement. “It’s what keeps the art form vital and alive. And how better to support new work than to give opportunities to today’s most exciting young writers?”
The festival will open with Christopher Chen’s Passage (Oct. 20), inspired by E.M. Forster’s 1924 novel Passage to India, about the British occupation of India. Saheem Ali will direct.
Following will be Poor Edward (Oct. 21), by Jonathan Payne, about a homeless couple trying to survive and forge a new way of life. Tyne Rafaeli will direct.
Next up will be Jen Silverman’s All the Roads Home (Oct. 22), about three generations of headstrong women who must pick their battles and choose which dreams to let go of. The play will feature live music, and Lee Sunday Evans will direct.
