BROOKLYN, N.Y.: Theatre for a New Audience has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring four productions.
The season will begin with a double bill of comic one-acts (Oct. 27-Nov. 19), Marcel and The Art of Laughter. The U.S. premiere of Marcel, created by Marcello Magni and Jos Houben, is a two-hander about the collision of clowning and mortality. Magni and Houben will perform. Houben’s The Art of Laughter will run in tandem, offering a comedic masterclass about how to make audiences laugh.
Following will be the world premiere of Adrienne Kennedy’s He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box (Jan. 18-Feb. 11, 2018), which explores themes of the Jim Crow laws, rising Nazism, sexual hypocrisy, Christopher Marlowe, and a looming crime through the lens of two people, one in Georgia and the other in New York City in 1941. Evan Yionoulis will direct.
Next up will be Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale (March 11-April 15, 2018), a romance about a king whose life takes a dark turn when he accuses his wife of infidelity. Arin Arbus will direct.
Next will be Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (May 10-27, 2018), a coproduction with the Acting Company and Delaware’s Resident Ensemble Players, about shipwrecked twins who embark on adventures with mistaken identities on the island of Illyria. Maria Aitken will direct.
