CHICAGO: Theater Wit has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring three productions.
“This has been a year of tsunami-sized cultural change,” said artistic director Jeremy Wechsler in a statement. “So many American ideals—media independence, social services, feminism, LGBTQ rights, anti-racism—seem under assault. But we have to stay true to ourselves, and that means comedies of reason and compassion.”
For the holidays will be This Way Outta Santaland (and other Xmas miracles) (Nov. 24-Dec. 30), written and performed by Mitchell Fain, which pulls together holiday stories from audience members mixed with Fain’s personal war stories about family and the holidays. Wechsler will direct.
Next will be the world premiere of The Antelope Party (Jan. 5-Feb. 24, 2018), by Eric John Meyer, a comedy about a meet-up group for adult My Little Pony enthusiasts that convene in Philadelphia. Wechsler will direct.
Following will be the Chicago premiere of Sheila Callaghan’s Women Laughing Alone with Salad (March 9-April 29, 2018), a satire about friendship, salad, sex, bodies, yoga, salad, men, envy, women, pharmaceuticals, diets, salad, uppers, and salad. Devon de Mayo will direct.
Theater Wit, founded in 2004, explores contemporary issues through new works and Chicago premieres.
