CINCINNATI: Educational Theatre Association (EdTa) has announced the appointment of Laurie Baskin to the EdTa board for a term through July 2020.
Baskin currently serves as director of research, policy, and collective action at Theatre Communications Group (TCG), where she oversees education programs and surveys. She also created the Blue Star Theatres program, which promotes engagement between theatre communities and military families. Baskin serves as TCG’s liaison to the Performing Arts Alliance and directs advocacy efforts at the federal level on behalf of the nonprofit theatre field. Prior to joining TCG in 1997, Baskin worked at the New York State Council on the Arts. She attended Mount Holyoke College. She earned a B.A. from Colgate University and a degree in arts administration from Adelphi University.
EdTa’s 11-member board has 8 directors elected from among the organization’s membership and 3 appointed positions. The organization, which has approximately 100,000 members, strives to shape lives through theatre by honoring student achievement and supporting educators. The International Thespian Society, operated by EdTa, is an honorary organization that has inducted more than 2.2 million theatre students into Thespian troupes since its founding in 1929. EdTA also produces the International Thespian Festival and publishes Dramatics, a monthly magazine for high school theatre students, and Teaching Theatre, a quarterly journal for theatre education professionals.
