SEATTLE: Sound Theatre Company has announced its 2017 season, for which all of the shows are written by and directed by women.
The season will open with the world premiere of Nadeshiko (April 13-May 7) by Keiko Green. Presented in collaboration with Seattle’s Umbrella Project for new-play development, Nadeshiko tells the stories of two generations of Asian women who are reclaiming their power from idealized perceptions of beauty. Kaytlin McIntyre will direct.
Following that will be Hoodoo Love (July 13-July 30) by Katori Hall. Presented in collaboration with the Hansberry Project, the production will be the Seattle premiere of Hall’s play about blues music and black life in her native Memphis, Tenn., during the 1930s.
Finishing the season is Goblin Market (Aug. 10–27) by Polly Pen, Peggy Harmon, and Christina Rosetti. Directed by Teresa Thuman, this dark musical, set in Victorian times, is about two grown sisters who revisit their sexually-charged childhood fantasies in an imaginary world of seductive goblins.
Founded in 2006, Sound Theatre Company presents highly theatrical work inspired by language and music while showcasing professional and emerging area talent at Seattle’s Center House Theatre.
