BERKELEY, CALIF.: Aurora Theatre Company has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring six productions.
“In 2016, Aurora celebrated its 25th anniversary by taking a look at the past,” said Aurora artistic director Tom Ross in a statement. “For our 26th season, we are inviting audiences to not only take a fresh look at the physical changes that we’ve made to the theatre but to also take a fresh look at the power and possibilities of live theatre.”
The season will kick off with the Bay Area premiere of Rebecca Gilman’s Luna Gale (Sept. 1-Oct. 1), about a social worker who struggles to keep a baby safe after removing the child from her negligent teenage parents.
Next up will be the Bay Area premiere of Marco Ramirez’s The Royale (Nov. 3-Dec. 3), about the first black wrestler to compete for the heavyweight championship.
Following will be Widowers’ Houses (Jan. 26-Feb. 25, 2018), by George Bernard Shaw, about a young doctor who falls in love while on vacation, and upon his return he learned that he and his fiancée are beneficiaries of a scheme to exploit the poor.
The season will continue with Caryl Churchill’s A Number (March 9-April 22, 2018), about a man who discovers that he is only one in a number of identical copies.
Next will be the world premiere of Jonathan Spector’s Eureka Day (April 13-May 13, 2018), about a forward-thinking school in the Bay Area that cannot come to a consensus about vaccinations after a crisis threatens the students’ safety.
The season will close out with the Bay Area premiere of Dry Powder (June 22-July 22, 2018), by Sarah Burgess, a dark comedy about the world of private equity.
