BANGOR, MAINE: Penobscot Theatre Company has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring three plays and three musicals.
The season will open with The Fabulous Lipitones (Sept. 7-24, 2017), by John Markus and Mark St. Germain. The piece is described as an “a cappella musical comedy.”
Next will be William Goldman’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery (Oct. 12-Nov. 5), about a famed author who is kidnapped and trapped by an obsessive fan.
For the holidays, Penobscot will mount the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast (Dec. 7-30).
Jeff Daniels’s Escanaba in da Moonlight (Feb. 1-18, 2018), about a family who reunites for dear hunting season, will be next.
After that will be Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino (March 15-April 1, 2018). The play is about a female veteran, who served in Afghanistan, who uses virtual reality to escape her pain.
Closing out the season will be another musical, The Spitfire Grill (April 26-May 13, 2018), by James Valcq and Fred Alley. The folk musical is based on the 1996 film by Lee David Zlotoff, about a parolee who finds a new meaning to her life at a rural diner.
Founded in 1973, Penobscot Theatre Company presents shows at the historic Bangor Opera House and is the only year-round, professional regional theatre in Northern Maine.
