BRISTOL, PA.: Bristol Riverside Theatre has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring five productions.
The season will begin with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Sept. 19-Oct. 15), with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, about six adolescents who face off in a spelling championship. Amy Kaissar will direct.
Next up will be Quartet (Oct. 31-Nov. 19), by Ronald Harwood, about three people who live in a home for retired opera singer and take part in a celebration of Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday. Susan D. Atkinson will direct.
Following will be Time Stands Still (Jan. 23-Feb. 11, 2018), by Donald Margulies, about a war photographer who is injured in a car bomb but is eager to return to action. Atkinson will direct.
Next will be The Producers (March 6-April 1, 2018), with book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks, about a scheming producer and his accountant who decide to produce a flop to make more money. Keith Baker will direct.
The season will conclude with Triumph of Love (May 1-20, 2018), with book by James Magruder, music by Jeffery Stock, and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead. The musical, based on the play by Marivaux, follows a ruthless princess who disguises herself as a man in order to get closer to her beloved. Baker will direct.
Founded in 1986, Bristol Riverside Theatre brings musicals, plays, children’s programming, and educational outreach to Bucks County.
