CHICAGO: American Blues Theater has named Claude Binder the company’s first managing director. He will join producing artistic director Gwendolyn Whiteside and general manager Jaclyn Holsey in his new role on March 6.
“I am honored and excited to welcome Claude to the Blues family,” said Whiteside in a statement. “I’ve admired his expertise, management style, and counsel for many years. He will help us grow exponentially.”
Binder has worked professionally in the Chicago performing arts community for more than 30 years. Most recently, he served as director of production at the Joffrey Ballet. He was also executive director of Chicago Children’s Theatre. He also worked at Steppenwolf Theatre Company as general manager and production manager, and during his 15-year tenure, Binder led the company in transferring five productions to New York City. He is a former member of the board of directors of Redmoon Theatre and Village Players, and served as an adjunct faculty member at both Columbia College Chicago and DePaul University.
