CHARLOTTE, N.C.: Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte (ATC) has found a permanent residence, just in time for its 2016-17 season. After the plan to move into a former Kellogg Snack Factory fell through due to an inability to come to terms with the developer, the company will move into a new building at 2219 Freedom Drive on Sept. 15.

The lease for the new space is for five years with the option of two five-year extensions. ATC has also been granted the right of first refusal to purchase the property should the owner wish to sell.

“This move ensures local, professional theatre will remain alive in Charlotte for years to come,” said Dan Shoemaker, executive director and cofounder of the company, in a statement. “We wish to thank our community—both regionally and nationally—for helping raise awareness of our situation, and for providing the funds to make this possible. We are excited for the next chapter of the company.”

The company plans to move into the space immediately to begin work on its first production in the new theatre, which will be The Toxic Avenger—an irreverent musical adaptation of the cult classic movie.
