NEW YORK CITY: Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) has awarded New York-based director Seonjae Kim with the 2016-17 Mike Ockrent Fellowship. The fellowship was established in 2001 with the goal of helping emerging directors hone their skills by pairing them with more experienced directors to create large-scale, Broadway-style musicals or plays.
Kim will work alongside Tony winner Pam MacKinnon on the musical Amélie (Dec. 4, 2016-Jan. 15, 2017) at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. She will also receive a cash prize of $5,000.
Kim is from Seoul, South Korea and her directing credits include The Essential Ella Maythorne (Dixon Place); You’re Amazing!!! and That Noise (Williamstown Theatre Festival); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Rabid Bat Theatricals); Cloud 9, A Perfect Wedding and Kafka on the Shore (Northwestern University); and Moksori (Chicago Fringe Festival). She received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
The Mike Ockrent Fellowship is awarded in honor of the Tony-winning British director who died of leukemia in 1999. The fellowship pays homage to Ockrent by giving future generations of stage directors the opportunity to foster and refine their skills.
