AUSTIN: Experimental theatre ensemble Rude Mechs have announced their 2016-17 season, which will be the company’s last in the Off Center, their longtime performance space. The season will include productions, readings, and more.
First up will be Kirk Lynn’s Fixing Troilus & Cressida (Nov 6-13), a reimagining of the Shakespeare play, presented as a staged reading.
The next slot, Dec. 1-18, will bring back one of two past Rude Mechs pieces—either Requiem for Tesla or I’ve Never Been So Happy.
On Jan. 22, 2017, the Rudes will host Off Center on Screen, where they will show films of their past work.
In February 2017, the Rudes will be hosting a symposium on collective art-making.
In March 2017, the company will present a first look at Perverse Results, the 27th original play from the Rudes.
Following will be the Guerrilla Artifacts Projects (April 13-16, 2017), a visual-arts-based protest of the Rudes losing their space due to high rents.
On May 12, 2017 the company will host their “Buh Bye ‘Bonfire’ Party,” a farewell celebration for the Off Center.
Lastly, in June 2017, the company will host the 17th summer session of their theatre camp for teens.
Found in 1995, the Rude Mechs are a community-conscious experimental theatre company.
