NEW YORK CITY: New Georges, a downtown theatre company specializing in new works by female theatre artists, has announced two world premieres for its 25th anniversary season.

First, the premiere of Hilary Bettis’s Alligator (Nov 22-Dec 17), directed by Elena Araoz, will be presented in collaboration with the Sol Project at the A.R.T/New York Theatres. The play follows orphaned twin teenagers in the backwoods of the Florida Everglades as they interact with a host of characters in their small tourist town. With this production, New Georges becomes the first partner theatre of the Sol Project, a new multiyear initiative intended to raise the visibility of Latina/o playwrights in New York City and nationwide.

The second premiere will be Water (June 4-30, 2017), created by Sheila Callaghan and Daniella Topol with Liza Birkenmeier and a design team that includes set designer Louisa Thompson, lighting designer Barbara Samuels, and video designer Cory Einbinder. The play also includes original music and sound design by Broken Chord Collective and John P. Hastings. A coproduction with 3LD Art & Technology Center, Water is a collaboratively created piece of participatory theatre that explores human relationships to the environment in the face of profound ecological threat. Water will be part of Water City, a month-long, multidisciplinary art event featuring performances, artwork, and conversations that confront the global water crisis.
