CHICAGO: Cor Theatre has announced its 2016 season, the company’s second, with two plays that “explore the inner truth of the human experience through storytelling and courageous characters,” according to a press release.
“We saw an audience of over 1,400 support our work in 2015,” said artistic director Tosha Fowler in a statement. “We collaborated with and employed more than 40 artists over our two productions, Erin Courtney’s A Map of Virtue and Brad Fraser’s Love and Human Remains. I’m thrilled to confirm both productions were met with much critical success. We ended our season with a surplus, and we are moving into season two confident that we can build on this momentum to truly make our mark on Chicago’s storefront theatre scene.”
The season will start with the U.S. premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard’s Christina, The Girl King (March 17, 2016—April 9, 2016 ), translated by Tony Kushner and based on the life of Queen Christina of Sweden, who worked to bring an end to the Thirty Years’ War. Fowler will direct at the Frontier Theatre.
Next will be Bertolt Brecht’s The Good Person of Szechwan (Aug. 11, 2016—Sept. 11, 2016), also translated by Kushner, about three gods on a journey to find out if any good people are left on earth. Will Von Vogt will star and Ernie Nolan will direct at A Red Orchid Theatre.
