BERKELEY, CA.: California Shakespeare Theater released the details of its 2016 season today, a lineup which includes works by Shakespeare, Wilson, and Shaw.
The season will begin next summer with Much Ado About Nothing (May 25–June 19, 2016). Jackson Gay, praised by the New York Times as one of the “most important female directors, past present and future,” will direct.
Next, Raelle Myrick-Hodges, former artistic director of San Francisco’s Brava Theater Center, will make her Cal Shakes debut with Fences (July 6–31, 2016), August Wilson’s challenging study of race and class in 1950s Pittsburgh.
George Bernard Shaw’s You Never Can Tell (Aug. 10–Sept. 4, 2016) will follow. Set in a coastal English town at the turn of the century, Shaw’s classic comedy of errors offers a sharp-eyed take on marriage and the modern woman. Lisa Peterson will direct.
Eric Ting, stepping in for outgoing artistic director Jonathan Moscone, will select an additional Shakespearean title (Sept. 14–Oct. 9, 2016) to round out the fall season.
