NEW YORK CITY: Soho Rep has announced its 2015–16 season, which will feature César Alvarez and the Lisps and U.K. playwright Alice Birch.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be sharing these new works and Write with Us with our audiences this coming season,” said artistic drector Sarah Benson in a statement. “César and Alice are each making their debuts as lead artists at Soho Rep. Both take on thorny ideas that relate to us here and now using very innovative form, and most importantly both are artists that share an interest in challenging their own assumptions and so ask the same of us. I hope the result will be thrilling civic theatre.”
Soho Rep and Ars Nova will partner to produce the New York premiere of Futurity (Oct. 6–Nov. 8), billed as a Civil War sci-fi musical by Alvarez. He was the composer and musical director behind Soho Rep’s productions of An Octoroon and Washeteria. The Lisps, a Brooklyn-based indie band, will provide music for the play, to be directed by Sarah Benson.
Soho Rep will then host the U.S. premiere of Revolt. She. Said. Revolt Again. (April 5–May 8, 2015) by U.K.-based playwright Birch. The production, helmed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, examines the way we talk to, and about, each other. The play was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2014.
