CHICAGO: Theater Wit, which bills itself as the Windy City’s “premier smart art theatre,” has announced its three-play 2015–16 season. All productions will be staged by the company’s artistic director, Jeremy Wechsler.
Up first is The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence (Sept 17–Nov. 14), in a new version by Madeleine George, who also penned the company’s 2013 Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England. The play involves a computer programmer, Sherlock’s famous sidekick, and the assistant to Alexander Graham Bell.
Next, making its 12th consecutive appearance at the theatre, is The Santaland Diairies (beginning performances in November). The company describes Joe Mantello’s adaptation of the David Sedaris essay as “a celebration of the desperation of unemployment, the insanity of Christmas shopping, and the ineffable ‘cheer’ of the holiday spirit.”
Closing out the season will be the local debut of Alena Smith’s The New Sincerity (spring 2016). Set in 2011, the play follows a young journalist who gets caught up in an Occupy-like movement.
