NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.: Crossroads Theatre Company has named Ezra Ezzard their new managing director.
“Through Ezra’s commitment to artistic excellence and his strategic approach to financial sustainability, he is going to bring Crossroads into a vibrant new chapter,” artistic director Ricardo Khan said in a statement. “Ezra’s strong creative point of view and passion for the theatre will ensure our legacy continues to thrive and resonate well into the future.”
Ezzard has worked in marketing and other divisions at BBC Studios and BritBox and founded the media production and distribution company Artification. Artification is currently producing the hip-hop theatre experience Syncing Ink by NSangou Njikam at the Apollo Theater. Ezzard is a graduate of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater/Fordham University BFA program.
“Our founders pioneered a foundation of opportunity for so many brilliant artists,” said Ezzard in a statement. “I am deeply honored to now lead the organization towards what I can see as a very radically vibrant future. Our legacy affords us the opportunity to introduce the world’s next great playwright, actor, or director to the world. To be at the helm of that continuum is exciting, daunting, and liberating.”
Founded in 1978 by Ricardo Khan and L. Kenneth Richardson, Crossroads Theatre Company remains the only Black-founded, Black-led institution to receive a Regional Tony Award. As of 2023, the theatre had a budget of approximately $916,700.
