NOTRE DAME, IND.: Shakespeare at Notre Dame has named Scott Jackson the new Mary Irene Ryan executive artistic director. Jackson has been with Shakespeare at Notre Dame since 2007.
Jackson currently serves as the vice president and president-elect for the Shakespeare Theatre Association, where he also previously served as treasurer. He has taught acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Holy Cross College, Indiana University South Bend, and the Prague Shakespeare Company’s summer Shakespeare intensive, as well as at the University of Notre Dame. Jackson is a co-founder of the Shakespeare in Prisons Network and teaches yoga and acting at the Westville Correctional Facility in Indiana. He is also a research associate in applied Shakespeare for the Von Hügel Institute at St. Edmund’s College in the University of Cambridge.
Additionally, Shakespeare at Notre Dame has also promoted Debra Gasper to the position of Ryan Family producing director, and has welcomed Cate Cappelmann as their new general manager. Gasper has worked as a stage manager for over 20 years, and was the resident stage manager at Actors Theatre of Louisville for ten years before coming to Shakespeare at Notre Dame. Cappelmann is a recent Notre Dame graduate who previously served as an arts administration intern for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival.
Shakespeare at Notre Dame fuses the university’s pursuit of compassionate social justice with the study of the works of Shakespeare, combining humanistic pedagogy and the world’s greatest works of literature. They host the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival, Actors from the London Stage, and other community-focused programs.
