NEW YORK CITY: Roundabout Theatre Company has named Autumn Angelettie their 2023-24 Directing Fellow. Angelettie will assist on multiple Roundabout productions in the coming season and will also serve as a script reader.
Angelettie is a Black feminist and abolitionist director and organizer who crafts mission-oriented work. She is currently a member of the 2023 Moxie Arts New York Incubator, where she made her Off-Broadway debut directing Skyler Volpe’s one drop cool at the WP Theater. Angelettie’s work has been seen at the Brick Theater and the Secret Theatre, and she has assisted directors at Signature Theatre, the Park Avenue Armory, Mabou Mines, and Harlem Stage. She earned her BFA from Howard University.
The Roundabout Directing Fellowship was launched in 2017 to provide development opportunities, resources, and career assistance to emerging directors, especially those who have historically been denied equitable opportunities in the theatre industry. Previous fellows include current Roundabout resident director Miranda Haymon and Roundabout associate artist Whitney White.
Additionally, Roundabout has announced the members of the 2023-24 Leon Levy Foundation Roundabout Directors Group. The cohort includes Emily Abrams, Zahra Budhwani, Moses Garcia, Tramane Harris, Saki Kawamura, Sanhawich Meateanuwat, amani meliyah, Aileen Wen McGroddy, Isabel Perry, and Lucky Stiff. The Directors Group will be led by former directing fellow Mack Brown.
The Directors Group was launched in 2019 to provide an artistic community, foster camaraderie, and provide mentorship and access to an expanded professional network for directors. The cohort meets with artists monthly for workshops on topics like directing for television and film, leadership during a pandemic, finding representation, understanding the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and more. It is supported by the Leon Levy Foundation, which was founded in 2004 by Levy’s widow, Shelby White.
