Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.
On this episode, we speak to director Mei Ann Teo about their production of 7 Minutes, produced by Waterwell and Working Theater and currently playing at HERE Arts Center (March 17-April 10). This English translation by Francesca Spedalieri of Stefano Massini’s original Italian play is set inside a rural Connecticut textile factory, where 11 union council members must vote on a crucial decision that will affect the future of every factory employee. We discuss the play’s heightened significance when viewed through an American lens, the future of new-play development, and labor practices in the theatre industry and beyond.
