LIVERPOOL, N.Y.: The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) has partnered with Southern Methodist University’s (SMU) DataArts Workforce Demographics program to collect key data in the design industry. The Entertainment Design and Technology Workforce Demographics Survey is available here through May 28.
“To remain relevant to and representative of our changing society, studies like this will provide key information that can inform decisions that ensure all community members have access to opportunities,” USITT executive director David Grindle said in a statement. “It will inform us about the current status of our industry, and we plan to use this survey as a baseline to a follow-up survey in 2025.”
Anyone working in design or technology for live entertainment, from students to retirees, is welcome to take the 5- to 7-minute survey. The secure survey will anonymously collect demographic and career information, including race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability status. Data are not transmitted to USITT but are instead stored in a secure, third-party system only accessible to SMU DataArts. The survey will not collect personal information like name, address, or email address.
SMU DataArts, formerly known as the Cultural Data Project, is a center at Southern Methodist University that empowers arts and culture leaders with high-quality data and evidence-based resources and insights.
USITT promotes vibrant dialogue, research, and learning among practitioners, educators, and students of theatre design and technology. USITT is the leader of lifelong learning opportunities for the entertainment design and technology industry.
