NEW YORK: Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the sixth iteration of its Rising Leaders of Color program (RLC). The 2021 RLC cohort will consist of eight Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) leaders based in New York City boroughs who are advancing their careers in nonprofit theatre or related sectors. The application deadline is April 5.
“We are thrilled to launch the sixth round of the Rising Leaders of Color program,” Emilya Cachapero, TCG’s director of artistic and international programs, said in a statement. “More than ever, as this country wrestles with its legacy of racism and inaction, it is essential to uplift and support BIPOC leaders who have exhibited their commitment to creating a more just society.”
The 2021 RLC program will combine practical skills building with professional connections and relationship development opportunities, as well as tools and resources to navigate a career in theatre as a BIPOC leader. Activities will include workshops to strengthen leadership skills and provide a catalyst for personal growth, regular all-cohort meetings, individual coaching sessions with specialists and TCG staff, access to veteran leaders in the field and a national network of peers, and more. Due to continuing health and safety restrictions, the program will take place online from May 2021 through June 2022.
